How does the coordination of health and dental
expenses work between the Alberta Seniors Program and the Supplementary
Health
and Dental plans?
Like other government programs such as Alberta
Health Care the Alberta Senior Program is the first payer of any health
or
dental expense. When you become a participant of the Alberta Senior's
program
you will receive an Alberta Blue Cross card to use when you are
accessing
health and dental services. Your provider will bill directly to the
Seniors
Program for the costs for services received subject to the limitations
under
the Alberta Seniors program. Any amounts not paid by the Alberta Seniors
Program will be considered for reimbursement under your Group Benefits plan. Your Group Benefits plan will pay any remaining amounts up to the plan maximum
and
subject to limitations.

The Relationship Between Your Company, the Broker and the
Insurance Company
|
|
by Jennifer Creighton, BA The Benefit Specialists Corp.
There is a constant misconception in the employee benefits world where clients believe their main
contact, the broker, is only there to represent the large insurance company who
collects the monthly premium and pays the employee's claims. When they are unhappy with the plan or the
rates, they feel terminating the relationship with the broker and in turn,
their benefits provider, is the only option for them as they feel the broker is
only aligned with that one specific company. This is an area where the relationship between the company, the
Insurance provider and the broker needs to be explained. Insurance providers
can only work with independent brokers; they cannot work directly with you. An
insurance broker is an independent who works with many insurance companies to
find the very best product and pricing for you, the client. They
do not represent one company. The
broker identifies the specific health and dental needs of the company they are
working with and shops for the best plan, providers, and rates available. A broker should have
an understanding of your company values and a concern for the health and
welfare of their clients. Through day to
day service, they are, in essence, a part of your team and your closest ally. This
type of business is founded on relationships and it should feel that way to the
client. It is a relationship that works
for the benefit of the employees. Because
of such, communication is important, especially when one side is unhappy and
wants a change.

Best Doctors Provides the Best Doctor
|
|
Dawn's Story: "After
years of running into dead ends and hearing "there's nothing we can do" with
regards to my daughter's condition, I called Best Doctors in Canada. The person who answered the phone identified
herself as a nurse, she wasn't just a receptionist or answering service, or the
dreaded recording saying "press 1 for...". After about an hour of conversation she said someone would get back to
me in about a week to 10 days. The very
next day I got a call from my assigned case worker who gave me a list of names
of doctors in my area she found on the internet and that she would be sending
me a list of doctors from their database. The following week I received a nice, bound portfolio of the Best
Doctors recommended doctors. I sent the
doctors' requested referrals and within a week I received a call from one of
the doctors (who practices at the other end of the country). We spoke at great length about my daughter's
condition and he offered several options to suggest to our family doctor. He also took it upon himself to forward her
case to a surgical specialist colleague who we arranged to see within two
weeks!!! We haven't reached the end of
our journey to wellness yet but at least we again have forward motion." "I
would recommend Best Doctors to anyone who has the service available to
them. I only had to tell our "story"
once, to that first person who answered the phone. Best Doctors truly cares about their
"patients" and they have been in contact me with regard to how things are going
and to say they are there if I wish to extend my search for the "Best Doctor"
for our situation. If you have it, use
it!"
